sentient beings

Our beloved pets are sentient beings- meaning they possess awareness and consciousness. They experience joy, sadness, fear and pain. Perceiving their environment in a deeply emotional capacity enables them to evaluate actions and consequences. As humans, it is our responsibility to protect them from suffering.

CANINE COMPASSION

My name is Tara Ellen, founder of Oneness Canine Care LLC (OCC). I'm here to support your shy, sweet doggo or your rowdy, lovable pooch and everything in between! I bring confidence and a unique skillset to support any breed from puppy to senior. And not to leave out my feline friends. I'm a big cat lover too!

I understand our canine friends who experience emotional distress, such as anxiety, timidness, reactivity or high energy. My commitment goes beyond feeding and potty breaks. I know how to meet dogs with patience, compassion and understanding.

OCC serves Falls Church VA, as well as very nearby areas. Many of my pet clients reside in the following neighborhoods: Falls Church City, EFC, Lake Barcroft, Highland Park, Westover, Dominion Hills, Churchill and Williamsburg- although I may be able to cover other nearby areas within Arlington and Annandale as well. Please provide your location when requesting services.

OCC is a member of Pet Sitters International, insured and bonded with Business Insurers of the Carolinas, and Pet First Aid Certified with PetProHero.

At-Home PET Care

Boarding your pet can be costly and stressful. Some dogs do not do well at a boarding facility. Your pets may feel much more relaxed to be at home while you're away.

At-Home Care can be anywhere from 30 minutes to several hours so you can focus on work, go to appointments, tend to child care needs, run errands, etc.

At-Home Care Overnight may be scheduled from 1-14 days in duration to care for your pets. Overnight stays include feeding, walking, playtime, medication administration and cleaning up after pets. You will receive daily updates about your pets, to include photos and/or videos.

Dog Walking

Dog walking on a short-term basis to support your unexpected busy schedule or during out of town trips.

Dog walking is limited to two dogs at a time. Dogs can be walked individually or together. For separate walks, time can be split into 15 minute increments, totaling a 30 minute walk (unless otherwise specified). For more than two dogs a 60-min service is required.

Dog walks may be scheduled for 1-3 times per day. Car rides to local parks can be arranged (NO DOG PARKS). You will have the option to monitor your dog's whereabout via real-time GPS tracking anytime by checking your client pet care mobile portal (set up prior to service).

Your dog is not a big fan of walking? I'll happily spend time safely engaging with your canine companion in your home, fenced yard or within your residential community.

Dog training

My training approach is 100% force-free. I practice positive reinforcement (+R) training techniques exclusively. Dog owner(s) are required to participate in all training lessons. I do not conduct board and train.

Currently, I offer private lessons at your home and in your neighborhood. We’ll work in a variety of environments in include different areas in your home, outside in a fenced yard, at nearby parks and during walks.

No worries if you live in an apartment complex or do not have a fenced yard. We’ll assess your area and come up with potential locations for practice. The most important thing is that your pup is safe, and is never pushed outside of his/her comfort zone.

Based on your goals and concerns, I will provide a variety of positive reinforcement training methods to help your pup stay safe, overcome behavioral challenges and build his/her confidence. During our lessons, I will ensure to provide valuable feedback, observations and recommendations in areas such as:

  • Managing the environment
  • Fundamental training cues
  • Proper use of equipment
  • Introduction of enrichment toys and engagement exercises
